Environmental Impacts of Boom-Corridor and Selectively Thinned Small-Diameter-Tree Forests

چکیده

European forest stands of small-diameter trees can provide industries with biomass as an alternative to fossil use. Small-tree harvesting is costly using conventional methods but accumulating felling heads (AFH) in combination a novel boom-corridor thinning (BCT) technique increase harvester productivity and supply cost efficiency. This method has great potential reduce costs, its environmental impact compared selective (ST) needs be determined. The objectives this study were therefore quantify compare tree soil damage well air, water emissions for both BCT ST various small-diameter-tree forests. Trials performed 84 units (42 replications per technique) across four countries. Damaged (with diameter at breast height ≥ 7 cm) measured after forwarding. Harvesting calculated from life cycle assessment. percentage remaining that had been damaged by the processes was 13% 19% ST, respectively, difference significant. exhibited lowest all categories considered, Greenhouse gas on average 17% lower BCT. reduces operations methods, results less trees.

Tree spanners of small diameter

A graph that contains a spanning tree of diameter at most t clearly admits a tree t-spanner, since a tree t-spanner of a graph G is a sub tree of G such that the distance between pairs of vertices in the tree is at most t times their distance in G. In this paper, graphs that admit a tree t-spanner of diameter at most t + 1 are studied. For t equal to 1 or 2 the problem has been solved. For t = ...

Tree-decompositions with bags of small diameter

This paper deals with the length of a Robertson–Seymour’s tree-decomposition. The tree-length of a graph is the largest distance between two vertices of a bag of a tree-decomposition, minimized over all tree-decompositions of the graph. The study of this invariant may be interesting in its own right because the class of bounded tree-length graphs includes (but is not reduced to) bounded chordal...

Backbone colouring: Tree backbones with small diameter in planar graphs

Given a graph G and a spanning subgraph T of G, a backbone k-colouring for (G,T ) is a mapping c : V (G)→ {1, . . . ,k} such that |c(u)− c(v)| ≥ 2 for every edge uv ∈ E(T ) and |c(u)− c(v)| ≥ 1 for every edge uv ∈ E(G) \E(T ). The backbone chromatic number BBC(G,T ) is the smallest integer k such that there exists a backbone k-colouring of (G,T ). In 2007, Broersma et al. [2] conjectured that B...
